Yes, we all know giving back to the community is good to do, but I have mostly taken a backseat by making monthly donations to several charities. It’s usually not my style to ask people to donate for a cause, but it’s become so common these days, even crowd funding weddings and vacations, so why not for a good cause.
Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) is a national organization that breeds, raises, and trains dogs to help handicapped people. The estimated cost for each dog is $50K, and they give these dogs away FREE to people in need.

DogFest was a fundraising event and a celebration of the dogs, the people who train them, the puppy raisers as well as the handicapped people who now own these specialized dogs. I’m proud to say I exceeded the suggested donation amount of $125 and raised $190. Next year I’ll reach announce my donation page earlier and raise more money.
Although I initially went to DogFest to talk with vendors and see if they could use some assistance with copywriting, I was drawn into the fun and games with my cocker spaniel, Buffy—who won the tail wagging contest for medium-sized dogs! Her prize – a big basket of goodies along with a coupon for a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for me!

I’ll definitely do this again next year and look for more opportunities (especially if I can bring Buffy) to get out and meet vendors, volunteers and others in the pet world.
